COINS OF THE FIVE GOOD EMPERORS

Nerva
Marcus Cocceius Nerva Caesar Augustus
RULED 96-98 CE

Nerva (Marcus Cocceius Nerva Caesar Augustus) was the first of the Five Good Emperors. Nerva lived from 8 November 30 to 27 January 98, and ruled 96 to 98 CE.

Nerva was declared emperor by the Roman Senate on 18 September 96 CE, the same day that Domitian was assassinated.

Nerva adopted Trajan as his successor in 97 CE. This was one of the most significant acts of Nerva's short (eighteen month) rule.
